• 1-3/4″ – 2″ → Early Dyna & FXR

• 2-1/4″ → 2006–2017 Dyna

• 2-1/2″ → M8 Softail

🔩 Recommended Torque Specifications (Important)

• Torque: 70 ft-lbs

• Procedure:

  • Tighten in a cross pattern

  • Start at 20 ft-lbs

  • Increase in 15 ft-lb increments until final torque is reached

What Is a Black Oxide Finish?

Black oxide is a conversion coating applied to steel fasteners to improve corrosion resistance, reduce glare, and enhance appearance without altering bolt dimensions. Unlike paint or plating, black oxide adds virtually no thickness, ensuring accurate torque readings and proper fitment on Harley engine, chassis, and accessory components.

Why Are My Black Oxide ARP Bolts Oily?

That light oil coating is intentional. After the black oxide process, bolts are impregnated with oil to:

• Enhance corrosion resistance
• Prevent rust during storage and use
• Maintain a deep, uniform black appearance

If your bolts arrive slightly oily, that means they’re protected and ready for installation.

Will Black Oxide ARP Bolts Rust?

Black oxide improves corrosion resistance, but like all steel fasteners, rust can occur depending on:

• Environmental exposure (humidity, rain, road grime)
• Heat cycles common on Harley engines
• Surface damage or lack of maintenance

In high-heat areas, the protective oil may darken or turn brown, which can resemble rust but is often just heat-affected oil residue.
