Trask Cush Drive Chain Conversion Kit – Harley Touring 2009-Up
Making big power? Your belt might not be too happy about it.
If you're running a high-horsepower bagger, riding it hard, or you're just tired of replacing broken drive belts, switching over to chain drive is worth looking into.
The Trask Bagger Cush Drive Chain Conversion Kit is designed for 2009-up Harley-Davidson FL Touring models with a compatible cush drive rear wheel.
This kit replaces your factory belt-drive setup with a chain-drive system built around heat-treated steel sprockets, quality bearings, and the cush drive assembly.
It's a solid option for performance baggers that see everything from daily street riding to track time.
And one of the nice things about this kit? You get to choose your gearing.
51 Tooth or 54 Tooth? Here's the Difference.
Trask offers this kit with two rear sprocket options, depending on how you want your bike to ride.
51T Rear Sprocket — Keep It Close to Stock
The 51-tooth rear sprocket is designed to retain your factory final-drive gearing.
If you're happy with how your bike is geared now and just want to make the switch from belt to chain, this is the option to look at.
It's a straightforward choice for riders who want a chain-drive setup without intentionally changing their gearing.
54T Rear Sprocket — A Little More Punch
Want your bagger to feel a little more eager when you get on the throttle?
The 54-tooth rear sprocket gives you a shorter final-drive ratio compared to the 51T option.
That means more torque multiplication at the rear wheel, which can help the bike feel stronger coming off the line.
The trade-off is higher engine RPM at a given road speed.
If you spend more time riding aggressively than cruising down the freeway, the 54T might be the better choice.
Both options use the included 25-tooth front sprocket.
Why Keep the Cush Drive?
If you're going to run chain drive on a big, torquey Harley, keeping the cush drive makes a lot of sense.
The cush drive uses damping components in the rear wheel assembly to help absorb some of the shock loads that travel through the drivetrain.
That can help smooth out the feel when you're getting on and off the throttle.
It's especially useful on motorcycles with substantial torque, where drivetrain shock can become more noticeable.
The Trask kit is designed to work with compatible factory and aftermarket cush drive rear wheels.
What's Included?
The Trask Cush Drive Chain Conversion Kit features:
-
25-tooth front sprocket
-
Your choice of 51T or 54T rear steel sprocket
-
High-quality bearings
-
Required spacers supplied with the kit
Both sprockets are heat-treated and coated for durability.
Don't Forget Your Chain
The chain is sold separately.
You'll need a 530 motorcycle chain with a minimum starting length of at least 130 links to complete the installation.
The chain will need to be sized correctly for your motorcycle during installation.
Why Switch Your Bagger from Belt to Chain?
For a mostly stock Touring bike, there's nothing wrong with sticking with a belt.
Belts are quiet, clean, and don't require much maintenance.
But once you start adding serious horsepower and torque, or you're riding aggressively enough to keep damaging belts, chain drive becomes a practical option.
A properly selected chain-drive system can be better suited to certain high-output applications and also gives you more options when it comes to changing your final-drive gearing.
Just keep in mind that a chain requires more maintenance than a belt.
You'll need to stay on top of lubrication, tension, alignment, and wear.
If you're willing to do that, a chain conversion can make sense for the right build.

Before You Order
Double-check that your motorcycle has a compatible cush drive rear wheel.
If you're running an aftermarket wheel, make sure its cush drive arrangement is compatible with this kit.
Also confirm the correct gearing option for your setup and remember to order your chain separately.
A Quick Word About Chain Maintenance
Chains are great, but they're not maintenance-free.
Unlike a belt, your chain needs regular attention.
Make sure you're:
-
Keeping the chain properly lubricated.
-
Checking chain slack and adjusting it as needed.
-
Inspecting the sprockets for unusual wear.
-
Checking alignment.
-
Replacing worn components before they become a problem.
New chains also go through an initial break-in period and may need adjustment as they settle in.
Don't install a chain conversion and forget about it.
A little maintenance goes a long way toward keeping everything working properly.
Installation Notes
This is a drivetrain conversion, so proper installation matters.
You'll need to verify sprocket alignment, chain clearance, chain length, mounting hardware, and the correct torque specifications.
Make sure the chain has adequate clearance throughout the suspension's range of travel.
If you haven't done a Harley chain conversion before, this is a job worth handing over to someone experienced with drivetrain work.
Why We Like This Kit
Trask has been building parts for performance Harleys for a long time, and this kit addresses something that comes up regularly on higher-horsepower baggers.
It gives you a way to move away from the factory belt, keep a cush drive setup, and choose the gearing that works best for your riding style.
The included bearings and spacers are a nice touch, too.
And like a lot of the parts we prefer to carry, it's made right here in the USA.
